Saddle Fantail Pigeons have always been a challenge to raise with perfect markings when trying to follow the show standards, so I have been busy the last 5 years working towards that goal. My web site will give you where I started and where I am now, along with some pictures of the birds I am using.
I purchased my first pair of saddles from Dennis Soares (Master Breeder in California). The cock bird is a bluebar and the hen is black with perfect markings. From this pair I have raised only black saddles, so I purchased a black saddle hen from a breeder in Oklahoma along with a pair of red saddles and an extra yellow hen. I had been getting some really good looking young along the way, but not with the show features I desired. However, now with selectively breeding the best back to my original pair from Dennis, I am getting some really good looking birds.
When I purchased my first pair from Dennis, I had not intended to show my birds ( just raise really nice marked birds for my own enjoyment), but after attending the Pageant of Pigeons Show in California for three years and showing one year, I got the bug to compete and raise my birds to the show standards. I have raised about 30 to 40 saddles each year.....keeping the best 3 or 4 and selling the rest. I am raising saddles in black, red, yellow and bluebar.
